Oracle Essbase Documentation Release 12.2.1.0.0
Now before you get to excited, this is Essbase in Oracle Business Intelligence 12.2.1.0.0 environment, but still..
This is a very interesting read to say the least.

The key take-away is that this release of Essbase is now aligned with BI, AND now on the same version; 12.2.1.0.0!
Smart View documentation interestingly enough still refers back to 11.1.2.5.510 but who is counting anyway but > this guy <
A few points worth noting:
! NO MORE EAS CONSOLE OR ESSBASE STUDIO !
"Administration Services and Essbase Studio Are No Longer Available
Release 12.2.1 includes Essbase and Oracle Hyperion Provider Services. Oracle Essbase Administration Services and Oracle Essbase Studio are no longer available and are not supported with Release 12.2.1.
References to Administration Services and Essbase Studio in the Essbase and Provider Services documentation set should be ignored."

I am thinking that EAS as we know it will now become EJA? Maybe it will even be available via Workspace?
"The Essbase Java Agent is a Web application that replaces the classic C Agent. Java Agent is deployed in WebLogic Server, and uses an Oracle relational database, instead of the Essbase security file, to manage application and database metadata. WebLogic Server monitors and controls the Java Agent process. The Java Agent uses Oracle Diagnostic Logging (ODL) instead of essbase.log. Essbase Java Agent offers improved concurrency and networking capabilities over the classic C Agent.

Smart View for Office 11.1.2.5.600 RELEASED!
Today Smart View version 11.1.2.5.600 was released in GA!
In a prior post, I listed out the documentation for this version along with the new features, etc.
I am happy to see that a new feature that was introduced to Smart View in version 11.1.2.5.510 got another enhancement! The feature of being able to 'Insert Attributes' in a reporting grid with a single button on the Essbase contextual ribbon now allows you to be more selective on the attributes being inserted, as well as, the members selected from those Attribute Dimensions!!
This feature is also semi-dynamic! Meaning, if you already have attributes on a reporting grid and you click the 'insert attribute' button, the GUI will only "ask" you about the attributes that are NOT currently on the grid to then be inserted.

How to Clear Smart View URLs from Options->Advanced?
I get this question on a regular basis, so I think that it is blog post worthy.
A user miss-spelled, or copy-pasted or just wants to clear the history of the Smart View URLs that have accumulated over time.
Even though it is pretty straight forward, it is not always easy to remember or find the nicely hidden folder path to the .xml file that needs to be modified.
The file is named: "properties.xml"
The file folder path on your machine should be similar to the following:
alphaDrive:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Oracle\SmartView\properties.xml
You can open the file using notepad, textpad, etc.The file is formatted using markup language and structured with opening <cfg> and closing </cfg>
Within the configuration, is another tag that contains the current provider URL, using <provider> that you have entered into the Smart View Options -> Advanced -> "Shared Connections URL:" Smart View URLs.
There is another tag <previousURLList> that contains the list of URLs that you have entered, etc. Keep in mind that this list is pipe "|" delimited.
Again, this file can be edited/modified to change and/or clear the list as needed.
Example:

Smart View Ribbon Keyboard Equivalents - Excel 2016
Published in the Smart View for Office Accessibility Guide is a handy table with all of keyboard shortcuts (Smart View Keyboard Equivalents). This is for those of you that either a still suffering from Essbase Add-in withdrawl or you are a Smart View for Office guru that would rather use the keyboard and not have to rely on the mouse.

I was a little disappointed on my birthday, being yesterday, May 27th.
Thought that there was going to be the announcement and release of the much awaited Smart View for Office version 11.1.2.5.600! It was not, but..
An interesting twist was that all of the documentation is available and posted via docs.oracle.com
So that must only mean 1 thing. At least a post about new features, etc. but just not the ability to share specific screen shots.

Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Features
Click Insert Attributes to launch the Insert Attributes dialog box, where you can select the attribute members to add to the POV. When the attribute dimensions are in the POV, you can pivot or drag them to the grid as required. Once on the grid, you can use the Remove Only command to remove any unwanted attribute dimension or members.
You can add attribute dimensions at any time during the ad hoc session.
If the grid already contains some, but not all, attribute dimensions in the database, you can click Insert Attributes to select any of the remaining attributes to the POV.
Note that you can still use Member Selection to add specific attribute dimensions as required.
Enterprise Performance Reporting Cloud Features
Soon, very soon.. we should all be able to go out to OTN and download this version!
