PBCS - Oracle Financial Reporting Web Studio URLs

PBCS .. Oracle Financial Reporting Web Studio URLs

Goal: Easy to use weblink for users to click and run reports (FRs)

While working with PBCS and creating FR (Financial Reports) using the Oracle Financial Reporting Web Studio, I wanted to be able to send a simple URL to Users via email and at the same time use this URL in the Task List.

This would give them the ability to view on their mobile phone, tablet or browser directly without having to log into the app, search-dig around for the report via Reports, etc. They could simply use the URL or the Task List item!

Like this:

So, this is how you would do that, easily, and with a few simple steps.
These steps assume that you have already created and saved your Financial Report (FR)

Let's use the sample app = "Vision" in this case
and the folder "Plan Reports"
with the report named "Income Statement - Act vs Plan"

Step 1: Locate your report in the Web Studio repository folder; Done

example: Vision/Plan Reports/Income Statement - Act vs Plan

Step 2: It is Free to use, go to link https://www.urlencoder.org/

2.1) In the box where it says "Type (or paste) here..."
follow those instructions ;)

2.2) click > ENCODE <

you then have a simply encoded the URL in the proper format

2.3) Copy the entire string result now encoded

In this example: Vision/Plan%20Reports/Income%20Statement%20-%20Act%20vs%20Plan

notice that I needed to also encode the folder "Income Statement" since there is a space in the name

Step 3:
It is fun to know that Workspace is still running, makes me feel like I should be looking for the ships-wheel, Ahoy Matey! .. but I digress ..

The reason that I mention Workspace is because it is needed for this next step.
Your desired outcome should look like this example.
https://<your_services>.oraclecloud.com/workspace/index.jsp?module=tools.relatedcontent&repository_path=/<folder_name>/<encoded_report_name>
Now let's break up the parts

Part 1: <your services>
example: planning-test-MyCompany.pbcs.em2

Part 2: .oraclecloud.com/workspace/index.jsp?module=tools.relatedcontent&repository_path=/

Part 3: <folder_name>/
part 3a: if needed, add folder names
example: Vision/Plan%20Reports/

Part 4: <encoded_report_name>
example: Income%20Statement%20-%20Act%20vs%20Plan

This is an example of the final result:

https://planning-test-MyCompany.pbcs.em2.oraclecloud.com/workspace/index.jsp?module=tools.relatedcontent&repository_path=/Vision/Plan%20Reports/Income%20Statement%20-%20Act%20vs%20Plan

You can now copy paste that URL and use it in the Task List or simply email that URL to any user that has the proper provisioning to run the report!

A Holiday Season Patch! HFR Web Studio 704

Oracle is so nice and giving for this holiday season and heading into the New Year!

Patches! Patches!

Patch Set Update for Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting 11.1.2.4.704 is Available- Patch 24466619

This is an interesting read for the 'new features' added to the Web Studio to get to parity with the Windows client version and a little note-suggestion to move over to the Web Studio sooner than later.. as Oracle is NOT going to distribute the desktop client planned sometime mid-2017!

New Features in 11.1.2.4.704:Financial Reporting Web Studio enhancements to achieve more parity with the Windows Studio functionality:
  • Conditional formatting and suppression
  • Auto-Calculation
  • Ability to Save Objects
  • Related Content
  • Row/Column templates

Removal of Support for Financial Reporting Studio Desktop Client:
Oracle is committed to providing a simple and intuitive experience to the users of the service. To achieve this goal, Financial Reporting Web Studio, a component available since the 11.1.2.4.701 release, will be established as the only tool for designing and building reports. As a result, Financial Reporting Studio desktop client support will be fully transitioned to Financial Reporting Web Studio, tentatively in mid-2017. With a planned mid-2017 update, Financial Reporting Studio desktop client is planned to no longer be distributed.

Starting with the 11.1.2.4.704 release, Financial Reporting Web Studio will achieve functional parity with most of the capabilities provided with Financial Reporting Studio desktop client. You will be able to create new reports and modify existing reports using Financial Reporting Web Studio.

Oracle recommends that you transition to using Financial Reporting Web Studio at the earliest opportunity.

Another word to point out, 'most'. Why most? Why not all? I guess that is why it is being stated as 'functional parity' and not 'full parity' or even 'parity plus lots of other fun stuff that never existed and you always wished was there or thought would be great to add, etc. etc. etc.'

New Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting Web Studio

New Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting Web Studio -
On Premise!

Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting
Release 11.1.2.4.000 / 11.1.2.4.700
Patch Set Update (PSU): 11.1.2.4.701

Patch 23009997: Patch Set Update: 11.1.2.4.701 for Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting. Readme

New Features in Release 11.1.2.4.700
Note: Starting with Release 11.1.2.4.700 Oracle Hyperion Web Analysis is no longer available for purchase.

·  Upgraded Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting Chart Rendering Engine
Starting in Release 11.1.2.4.700, Financial Reporting uses an upgraded charting engine to improve report visualization. Because of the inherent differences between the old and new rendering engines, this upgrade has some impact on the rendered chart output and behavior. While Oracle has focused on maintaining the existing charting functionality, chart outputs from the upgraded engine may differ from those created using the old engine. See Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting Charting for detailed information.

·  New Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting Web Studio
Release 11.1.2.4.700 includes Financial Reporting Web Studio, a web-based report authoring solution. Similar in look and feel to the Windows-based Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting Studio, the web-based Financial Reporting Web Studio incorporates usability improvements and report design paradigms.
This release includes most of the functionality currently available in the WindowsReporting Studio.

The existing Windows Reporting Studio will still be available. Because the report definitions remain the same, you can edit existing reports using the Windows or web version of Financial Reporting Studio. See Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting Web Studio User's Guide for detailed information.

Financial Reporting Web Studio Limitations and Workarounds:
o  Reports with bar charts support the solid bar border style only. All other bar border styles are ignored.
o  Point values may not be displayed in the HTML preview of a chart that contains a large image. To display the point value, resize the image or the bar width, or decrease font sizes.
o  A previously-selected data range may not appear as selected in the Chart Properties dialog box.
o  In Financial Reporting charts, bar shape options such as Triangle bar, Diamond Bar, and Cylinder Bar that were available in the previous release as combo chart format options are not supported. Bar is the only bar shape option available in this release.
o  In reports containing combo charts, clicking the Refresh button may cause the primary and secondary axis labels to be hidden even if you selected the settings to display these labels in the report.
o  Grid depth and smooth font options are not available in Financial Reporting charts in this release.
o  Reports with pie charts support solid bar border style only. All other bar border styles are ignored.
o  Proper min, max, and step tic values on the y-axis and y2-axis do not always display correctly. The min label is not always present. Also, the step by value doesn't always increment from the min value (or decrements from the max value).
o  Financial Reporting Web Studio does not display hidden system level folders such as Administration, Broadcast Messages, Crystal Ball Workbooks and System. Additionally, folders that users mark as hidden (new and existing folders marked as hidden by changing their properties) are not displayed after the next refresh operation. To display hidden folders in Financial Reporting Web Studio, open the Properties screen for the folders, then deselect (uncheck) the hidden check box, and then perform a refresh operation.

The 'press release' is great, but this is a first look I had into the redesigned OHFRWS (I will not sound that out any time soon) or, in my mind,
FR Web Studio!

Below is a side by side of FR Web Studio and OBIEE 12c, since they look and feel very similar.

Nice to see that the old FR Studio (windows client) icons are still being used ;)

So, this is the first look i took into the new FR Web Studio and will continue post the more I get into using and testing, stay tuned..

Initial thoughts:
  • Why is FR Web Studio not just simply.. OBIEE?
  • Why do Dimension members appear in the same order as in the Outline (period example above; in both cases FR Web Studio & OBIEE)?
  • It would be nice to also have a FR Smart View Studio 'client' available!
    • Create/Design FR
    • Modify Existing FR
    • Use Excel Formatting in FR reports, etc.
